Sage Herbal Tea Benefits for Skin, Stress & Daily Wellness

An Enid b. Letter from the Studio

Sage is one of those plants that carries a long history of use, valued across generations for its ability to support the body in simple, practical ways.

Sage gently supports balance.

If your skin feels overwhelmed, it can help clarify.
If your body feels tense, it can help you relax and release.

For those dealing with a fever, a simple sage infusion can be sipped or added to a bath to support the body as it sweats and works through the heat.

For my sisters and aunties navigating hot flashes caused by menopause, sage is often used to help regulate and reduce excessive sweating.

And that naturally raises the question, how can one herb support both?

It comes down to the compounds within the plant and the wisdom of the body. Sage doesn’t force the body in one direction. It works in partnership with it, supporting what’s needed in the moment.

Meet Sage (Salvia officinalis)

Sage, also known as garden sage, is botanically known as Salvia officinalis. It’s a plant that has been used for centuries across cultures, in cooking, documented in herbal traditions dating back to ancient civilizations, and in simple, everyday rituals of care. It also belongs to the Salvia genus, a diverse family of plants that includes over 900 species worldwide.

Its name comes from the Latin salvere, meaning “to save” or “to heal.”

Traditionally, sage has been used to support:

  • The immune system
  • Digestion
  • Oral and throat health
  • Mental clarity and focus
  • Hormonal balance (especially for women)

For years, sage has been a staple in my hair care routine, most often used as a gentle herbal rinse. While it doesn’t directly promote hair growth, sage is rich in compounds and volatile oils with antimicrobial and astringent properties, helping to create a healthy, balanced environment for the scalp and hair follicles. This is part of the intention behind including sage in my Beloved Crown Hair Oil.

My Herbal Tea Blend Recipe

I created this tea blend to support my overall health, using herbs known for their antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, as well as for their rich vitamin and mineral content. When I first made it, I was surprised by how delicious it was; the aroma carries a soft, almost candy-like sweetness, and the taste, without any sweetener like honey, will be slightly tart. I encourage you to try the recipe as is first, before adjusting it to make it your own.

This is the blend I’ve shared in my workshops, made for friends, and keep as a staple in my pantry.

Recipe for 1 cup
(This drink can be enjoyed hot or cold)

    Ingredients:

    • ½ tsp. sage (fresh or dried leaves)
    • ¼ tsp. oregano (fresh or dried leaves)
    • 1 tsp. dried hibiscus petals (fresh or dried leaves)
    • ½ tsp. orange peel (optional) – or use fresh orange slices when making a large batch of iced tea.
    • 1 cup hot water (just brought to a quick boil, then removed from heat)

    Instructions:

    • Place the sage, oregano, hibiscus petals, and orange peel (if using) into a cup or tea infuser.
    • Pour 1 cup of hot water over the herbs.
    • Cover and let steep for 7 minutes.
    • Strain (if needed) and enjoy warm, or let cool for iced tea.
    • **Add ice if enjoying it as an iced tea.

    Tip:

For a smoother flavor, add a touch of honey or your preferred sweetener.

From Cup to Skin: A Ritual of Care

One of the things I often share in my workshops is this:

Care isn’t just external or internal, it’s both.

The same herbs we steep into tea carry properties that support the skin, the nervous system, and overall well-being.

    • Sage helps tone and clarify
    • Hibiscus is rich in natural acids that support gentle renewal
    • Orange peel brings brightness (inside and out)

When you take the time to prepare something like this tea, you’re not just making a drink.

    You’re creating a moment.

    A pause.
    A reset.
A small act of care that ripples outward.

And that’s the same intention behind every bar of soap, every butter, every oil I make at Enid b.

If You’d Like to Go Deeper

If this resonates with you, I’d love to invite you a little further into the studio.

    Whether that looks like:

    • Joining one of my hands-on workshops
    • Exploring the products I create in small batches
    • Or simply starting your own herbal rituals at home

    There’s space for you here.

Because of this work, working with plants, with our hands, with intention, isn’t just about what we make.

It’s about how we care for ourselves… and how we return to ourselves.

    With care,
